NURSING. So vital and yet so difficult to describe! From bringing in a new life to confirming the last breath, nursing covers all aspect of life; nothing can compare to the compassion, the sadness, the joy felt throughout it. OH, and #neverforget those 4am clinical wake ups followed by an all night study sesh! To top that, we get to experience it all with people just like us: passionate hardworking student nurses. Had you asked me where I would be my senior year, I would never have imagined it would be here. At times, you joke about changing majors but quickly realize you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else; you’re learning to receive a patient at their worst and promote them to their best. Who knows? Maybe one day you'll have us as your nurses!

This past March, I had an incredible opportunity to go to Liberia with Samaritan's Purse and learn about the Ebola crisis that stunned West Africa in 2014 and the recovery process that followed. SP was very influential in facilitating medical care and educational propaganda during the crisis but also creating recovery programs: well-building/spring rehabilitation, agricultural teaching for widows/widowers, Operation Christmas Child, and more. Definitely check out this amazing organization; one of their main operations offices is even here in Boone!

What's up, App State?! My name is Matt Cook and I'm a senior nursing major with a Spanish minor. I'm also involved with appstate_mp and teach cycle classes for appstatefitness. I'm practically jumping with excitement to share my week with y'all! So let's do this!

ASE stands for Alternative Service Experience, and is an organization that I have been involved with since my freshman year! I have been a participant on 3 ASEs, and I've led one as well! ASE programs provide students with opportunities to interact with local, national, and international community partners and serve those community partners in however they need. There are TWO Winter ASE Programs that still have spots available: one in San Francisco, California and one in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. I was lucky enough to participate in the St. John program my freshman year here and it completely shaped my experience as a student. ASE is a great way to get involved and learn about various social issues and our influence on them. Stop by the ACT Office or DM me for more information!!

Welcome to the ACT Office - my home away from home. Sometimes it feels like I live here, but I love it! ACT stabds for Appalachian & the Community Together and its mission is to cultivate responsible citizenship through education and action. We put on a lot of the major events you see around campus, like Dance Marathon, the MLK Challenge, and The Homecoming Blood Drive, as well as some of the smaller events, like Leigh Lane Day of Service, Farm Day, and Social Justice Coffee Hour. Overall, we as the ACT Team do our utmost to provide students with opportunities to engage in our local community. Head on into the ACT Office on the first floor of the PSU and ask a Service Advisor about service opportunities to get involved in!

Who's the woman behind the mask??? Like your average superhero, Tracker doesn't always look like Tracker. At the end of the day, nothing feels better than taking off that giant head and unzipping the fur from your body - not that I'm speaking from experience or anything... Tracker is unbelievably excited that the Homecoming Blood Drive is LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!!!! Lucky for you, there are still plenty of spots open for registration, and if you do it by Friday night, you could win some yummy cookies! Register at homecoming.appstate.edu/blood-drive ASAP!!

Tracker got to hang out at the blood drive contact table again today! Did anyone take the chance to get a high five??? It looks like he tried to give Abigail, one of the blood drive co-chairs, a smooch as she hung out this afternoon! The blood drive is just ONE WEEK away, so make sure you register ASAP!! Link in the bio! #appstatestudenttakeover #trackertakesover #herostatus

Check out Tracker - our favorite blood hound!! (Emphasis on the blood.) Tracker is the mascot for the Red Cross, who helps us out with our blood drive each year. Tracker is super friendly - if you see him hanging out, feel free to ask for a picture or a high five!

I know, I know - the natural instinct when you see a contact table is to avoid eye contact at all costs. BUT if you sign up to either volunteer or donate for the blood drive at our contact table in International Hallway, you get a free t-shirt AND you will be entered to win a super cool prize as long as you register by the end of the day on Friday!! I'm not saying you'll win cookies... but you could win cookies ✌homcoming.appstate.edu/blood-drive #appstatestudenttakeover #whyistherenocookieemoji

Say hello to your 2017 Homecoming Blood Drive Committee! This incredible group of women starting meeting together at the end of last semester to plan our theme, start reaching out to local businesses, and set our goals for the blood drive. It's not always easy, and it can definitely get frustrating, but saving lives makes it worth all the 7 am meetings!! I couldn't ask for a better committee to work with ❤ #appstatestudenttakeover #girlpower💪

Pro Tip for Anyone pursuing a career in healthcare: get involved. Learn about professions. Talk to people, shadow, volunteer. This semester I am volunteering at Watauga Medical Center and I couldn't be enjoying it more. (Peep the blue smock) Every week I feel more confident in my decision to pursue medicine. Evenings after being at the hospital, my friends and I explore the parkway. Just in time for the sunset. #appstatestudenttakeover #boonethings

Have you experienced the Watauga Farmers Market yet? Located at 591 Horn in the West Dr. it's "walking" distance from campus. Who doesn't want to start the weekend with local food, live music, and wonderful people? (Open every Saturday 8am-noon )

Good afternoon mountaineers!!! Here is a 10/10 view at beacon heights off the parkway. It's a short hike 30 min off campus and it has a wonderful view of both the sunrise and sunset. A perfect picnic place :)

If you are interested in being an RA here is what you need to do: 1. Learn about the position. Know what you're getting yourself into. Talk to your RA 2. Come to an info session (sometime in October, more news to come on that) 3. Apply and interview! #appstatestudenttakeover

What are some pros of being an RA? 1. Planning fun hall events that occasionally include free food 2. Becoming pals with 30+ people (who you run into in the wild on campus ALL the time ) 3. You are a student leader and gain leadership and people skills 4. You live where you work 5. The RA staff at ASU is like family :) #appstatestudenttakeover #wearyourpajamastoworkday
