Now in this version, I’m driving on the lower level of Verrazano bridge coming towards Staten Island and then off to New Jersey (and yes, there’s an upper level for trunks). New York City is comprised of 5 boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and of course, Staten Island. Bet lot of you didn’t know that😉 Some history, The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. It spans The Narrows, a body of water connecting the relatively protected upper bay with the larger, wide open lower bay. The bridge is named for the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who in 1524 became the first documented European explorer to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River. It has a central span of 4,260 feet (1,298 m) and was the longest suspension bridge in the world from its completion in 1964 until it was surpassed by the Humber Bridge in the United Kingdom in 1981. It has the 13th longest main span in the world, and the longest in the Americas. Its towers can be seen throughout New York City and in New Jersey. The bridge marks the gateway to New York Harbor. All ships arriving at the Port of New York and New Jersey pass underneath the bridge and must therefore be built to accommodate the clearance under it.Since 1976, the Staten Island end of the bridge has been the starting point of the New York City Marathon #ny #nyc #statenisland #newyork #newyorkcity #brooklyn #bklyn #verrazanobridge #verrazano #fortwadsworth #fort #si #boroughs #thebigapple #gotham #newjersey #nj #bronx #queens #bx #qns #5boroughs

I’ll give you two perspectives to look at the Verrazano bridge which connects Staten Island to Brooklyn and then on to Manhattan and other boroughs. In this version, I’m literally walking underneath the bridge via Fort Wadsworth. New York City is comprised of 5 boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and of course, Staten Island. Bet lot of you didn’t know that😉 Some history, Fort Wadsworth is a former United States military installation on Staten Island in New York City, situated on The Narrows which divide New York Bay into Upper and Lower halves, a natural point for defense of the Upper Bay and Manhattan beyond. Prior to closing in 1994 it claimed to be the longest continually garrisoned military installation in the United States. Divided into several smaller units, including Fort Tompkins and Fort Richmond, its present name was adopted in 1865 to honor Brigadier General James Wadsworth, who had been killed in the Battle of the Wilderness during the Civil War. Fort Wadsworth is now part of the Staten Island Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, maintained by the National Park Service #ny #nyc #statenisland #newyork #newyorkcity #brooklyn #bklyn #verrazanobridge #verrazano #fortwadsworth #fort #si #boroughs #thebigapple #gotham #newjersey #nj #bronx #queens #bx #qns #5boroughs
