“There’s no cure for the common cold — but there may be ways to make it last for a shorter amount of time. A recent study suggests that taking zinc acetate and zinc gluconate lozenges may help shorten the duration of the common cold by an average 33%. Researchers from the University of Helsinki examined data from seven randomized trials, three of which used zinc acetate lozenges and four of which used zinc gluconate lozenges. Five of the trials zinc doses of 80-92 mg/day and two trials used zinc doses of 197-207 mg/day. The researchers found that zinc acetate lozenges were associated with a 40% shorter duration of a cold, while the zinc gluconate lozenges were associated with an average 28% shorter duration. The difference between the effects was explained by random variation. No difference in effectiveness was found for dosages over 100 mg/day, compared to dosages under 100 mg/day. The study was published on May 2, 2017, in JRSM Open. The human body cannot make zinc, so it’s important to get it from food and supplement sources. It can be found in many foods, including oysters, beef, crab, fortified cereals, lobster, beans, yogurt, nuts, milk, chicken, cheese, and oatmeal. You can also consume zinc in a supplement form, but be careful not to take too much. 💥ARE YOUR ACTIONS MATCHING YOUR AMBITIONS? . We talk about how we want to lose weight. . We talk about how we want to go to the gym more. . However, many times we find ourselves falling short of these goals. . But in these moments, we need to audit ourselves. Are our actions matching our ambitions? . Are we truly putting in the necessary work required to reach our goal? . If we’re not achieving it, the answer is either “No” or we simply don’t have the right strategy in place. . Quite often it’s the former. . I’ll admit I’m far from perfect. When I’m falling short of my goals, it’s usually because I’m putting in less than the required amount of work to achieve them. . We see one of the stars in a movie or TV show, and we want the exact body that person has. . So we’ll workout hard and eat well for the next couple of days. But then we realize it’s harder than we thought, so we quit. . You know who doesn’t quit? . The person who has the body you want. . There are going to be times you really don’t feel like meal prepping or going to the gym, but you have to do it anyway. . If you feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to get it done, you need to either evaluate where in the day you’re wasting time or re-adjust your goal to make it more manageable for your lifestyle. .
