.... Now I’m not gonna show any picture, you can look it up on your own, but this is where Gunnar Asplund totally screws Göteborg City Hall up (Rådhuset Göteborg), which even my teachers don't seem to understand. The two buildings which are attached have the same height, but since the form factor and proportions are otherwise different, it looks messed up. The two facades have the same two color composition, but since they otherwise have totally different geometricies with the latter being much simpler and flatter, it looks like a cheap and forced attempt of something. The two bases have almost the same hight and same color, but the dimension of the stones are different, so everything is just a confusion wether if it belongs or if it doesn't. It contradicts the rule. The two buildings are not in harmony with each other because they belong to different architectural styles and nor are they differentiated enough because they share so obvious and major components. There are no clear boundaries so everything gets garbled in the mind! Now look at this picture and the one in the previous post. This is a place where Malmö has adopted this theory with great success. Here are four main objects in both of them that are vastly different. It's easy for the eye to make sense of what is what. And here comes the magic. The black boxy-thing and the building to the right of it is actually the same building. Just as the Asplund extension, it is an annex as well. The definition between the two is clear as daylight. And both of these parts look amazing one by one and even more so combined. And there are a hundred years setting them apart, just as with the City Hall in Gothenburg. Det kommer mera.... as Martin Timell once said every week.

See the curve on that building? That's genuinely there, not just shoddy (phone) camera work on my part. The building bulges as it climbs higher. Kind of freaky - like an odd trick on the eyes.

Good morning Hamburg 💙 Yesterday evening I enjoyed a first little tour around Hafencity and saw the new Elbphilharmonie. What an impressive building and I just love the shape and structure of the top. Don't know how to describe but see how great it looks 💙 And now I'm off for breakfast and SHOPPING... yeah!

Channing Hansen⠀ on view stephenfriedmangallery until 29th of July, 2017.⠀ ⠀ Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based artist Channing Hansen. This will be the artist's first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom, as well as with the gallery. Hansen is a polymath, simultaneously pursuing interests in craft, science and technology. His large hand-knitted textiles are mounted on bare wooden stretchers and presented like paintings. Vibrant abstract forms undulate across the meticulously composed surfaces. For Hansen, the works are a kind of portal "suggesting a physical continuum in which a work of art exists in two, three, and even four dimensions": a frame through which to look at the world.⠀ ⠀ Photo/Source: http://stephenfriedman.com⠀ ⠀ #channinghansen #stephenfriedmangallery #knit #textiles #art #modernart #contemporaryart #museum #gallery #textileart #knitted #colors #continuum #dimensions #structures #artlovers #love
