This is the smile of someone who won the gold medal in Judo! In January, Artom, Ksyusha, (who both live at one of the orphanages we partner with) and their coach, Oleg, went to Finland to participate in judo competition among special needs athletes. They both won gold medals. We are very proud of them! #saturdaysmiles

Re-reading the biography of Maurice Sendak and his last days. It’s full of unrestrained darkness and heavyness with humor as it’s silver lining. Of lines where you go sighing, make sad faces and laugh. Remembered I had one of his books and that would just fill me up with excitement. No surprise that I love his biography too #mauricesendak #biography #rereading #artistportrait

Dear sponsors, your support is making a difference. “To our beloved sponsors, I am so grateful and give glory to God for you. My son was discovered to be with cancer in 2016. When I got the news, I first thought about how I would afford the treatment. But I thank God that I have my son because of your support. He is recovering because of the medical support you provide. In the recent ultra scan, the cancer has cleared, except for a spot on his liver. He is receiving medication for that as well and the doctors say that it should be healing completely. What can I ever give back to you, but to pray to God to grant you all your hearts' desires? May the almighty God richly bless you with long life and many countless blessings!!!“- Deborah, mother (Katuba CarePoint | Uganda)

Art matters - whether that is storytelling, making crafts with kids, cooking something that delights you, or arranging a beautiful bouquet. Beauty offers healing and peace - and our nation desperately needs both right now. Keep making the art that only you can make. 🎶 . . . . . #thatsdarling #artistsoninstagram #makersgonnamake #makers #story #storytelling #storiesmatter #bereal #berealwithme #storybehindsquares

Some of today's most notable innovators seek to positively impact not only profits, but people and the planet as well. . Perhaps the best part is that millions of dollars aren't required to impact the world, only an idea and (maybe) a developer. This week, we hear from sunyplattsburgh student and Planet Forward Correspondent Mariam Abdallah, ( mariamabdallah) in addition to georgetownuniversity student and Planet Forward intern Emily Arnold, ( emilyayoga) on how the world is growing greener at the tap of a push notification. Read on about new developments in green tech, only at PlanetForward.org. “On February 19, 2010, I lost the love of my life, who was only 46 years old, to melanoma. We were totally blindsided! • • • I wasn't looking to place blame because nothing I said or did was going to bring my husband back. Instead, my desire was to honor Richard’s memory by fighting in my own community. The pain Richard endured wasn't going to be in vain. Melanoma was not going to get the final say! The more I learned about melanoma, and the more I learned how little others knew about the realities of this cancer, the more passionate I became to do something about it. I didn't want anyone else to be caught off. Melanoma is the fastest growing preventable cancer in North America and, while it is one of the easiest cancers to self-detect, if not caught early, it is among the most incurable of all cancers. As a caregiver, I felt defenseless. Richard's melanoma was relentless and we could not control how quickly it spread. But what I could control was spreading melanoma awareness so that others might avoid the same heartache that my family went through.” • • • 📷 gritgloryphoto Read the full story through the direct link in our bio!!☝🏻☝🏻 #7billionones #youmattermovement #onehaspower #iamanoriginal #lovewillchangetheworld #youmatter #storiesmatter #storiesgram #storiesmatter #storytellingphotography #inspiredliving #humankind #healingart #youmatter #youareimportant #onehaspower #lovenowmorethanever #cancer #cancerstory #youareenough #kansascity #melanoma

Today we want to give a shout out to a a young woman who is an amazing example to the children we serve in Swaziland of pursuing and working toward dreams. When we talk about "succeed," Nombulelo is a vibrant role model to the community. She began her leadership by serving at the Ekudzeni CarePoint for a couple years. She was then recruited to be part of the administration crew at the Adventures In Missions/ HopeChest offices. Later she became the supervisor for the Swaziland Leadership Academy (SLA) students. She recently was hired for a job in one of the prominent companies in Swaziland, as she is also perusing her degree in accounting from the University of Swaziland. Such a story is an inspiration to the children. Many see Nombulelo's hard work and success and are hoping to achieve their own dreams.
