Here's sleep tip number 6 from our series of 12 tips for Christmas. Night training toddlers can be hard work, so save yourself time and effort by double layering their sheets with waterproof pads, meaning you only have to quickly strip the top layer and pop them back in bed, rather than remaking the whole bed.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #babysleep #toddlersleep #christmasiscoming #12tipsofchristmas #sleeptips #naptime #babywontsleep #mylittlesleeper #momlife #mumlife #sleepdeprivedmom #chicagoparent

We are back with the 4th practical tip on how to improve your sleep. If you’ve missed the first 3, make sure you check those out too! Caffeine is a great tool to improve allertness and focus, however used at the wrong times it can interfere with sleep. Caffeine works by blocking the action of adenosine on its receptor, thus preventing the tiredness induced by it, which is great if we need to be focused and productive. However, we need that sleep pressure to build up through the day in order to be able to fall asleep when the night comes. That’s why it’s so important to limit caffeine intake to the earlier parts of the day, when you need and can benefit the most from it. As the day progresses, switch to caffeine free products, such as decaffed coffee. If you workouts in the afternoon or in the evening and like to take pre-workouts, make sure it doesn’t contain caffeine, cause certain pre-workouts can contain 4-5x as much caffeine as a regular cup of coffee would provide. When should you stop consuming caffeine depends on your individual genetics. Some people metabolize caffeine faster, while others much slower. As a general rule of thumb, a 6 hour before bedtime cutoff is a good start. Assess your own tolerance, and if you find it still messes up your sleep, extend the caffeine-free time period to 7 or 8 hours. Some people find they need 12 hours to fully metabolize any caffeine they consume and have no impact on their sleep. Try out these tips and let me know if they’ve helped!

Are you rocking or feeding your baby (4 months +) til he falls asleep? 💤 These are sleep crutches and in order for your baby/toddler 👶🏻 to be able to put himself back to sleep on his own you need to teach him! It is a skill they will learn and have forever 🙌🏽 And don’t forget, consistency is key! #sleeptraining #babysleep #toddlersleep #sleeptips #napsohard

Yes, we’re in a hotel. Yes, they’re both asleep at 7:32 in our make shift bed for them because they wanted a “special treat”. See we didn’t just teach them how to go to sleep, we taught them how to listen to their bodies and to know when they’re tired and respond accordingly. We did teach them how to sleep. We did sleep train them in our own #attachedtosleep way. We didn’t break any nurturing “rules” We didn’t cause them any harm. We did it because we love them. And this is shocking, I know, but we sleep trained our kids and they still love us too. #attachedtosleep #mommymyths

Sunday Snuggle-Pedic Sleep Tip: If you’re bringing the stress of your job and daily life to bed with you, you’re not going to sleep well. Resolve to keep everything that’s stressful out of your bedroom, so don’t bring in work materials, your phone or even allow yourself to think about work while in your bedroom. You can also gain control over your worries and anxieties by keeping a worry journal. Write about the things that are bothering you so you can work through them instead of bringing them to bed with you. . . . #snugglepedic #sleeptips #goodnight #naptime #sleeplikeababy #stress #stressfree #noworriesbehappy #pillows

{ EARLY RISERS } The definition of an early riser is a baby or child that is awake before 6am. If your baby has recently finished a sleep program or has just started sleeping through then don't worry because early starts are common. It may take a week or so but your baby will adjust their sleep patterns and get used to so much consolidated sleep overnight and the mornings will lengthen. Other reasons for early risers could be that your baby is getting too much sleep during the day? Have your checked out your little ones current nap routines are they age appropriate? DM me for more info and a few simple tweaks to your day routine that will make your nights much more settled! 💕📷 bethanympoteet

Practicing Meditation in Bed 🛏 💤 Meditation can calm your mind and body and make it easier for you to fall asleep. Mindfulness meditation is particularly easy to do in bed, so you can use it when you're having trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep at night. Meditation practices can be combined with the corpse pose. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ Mindful breathing: Just before bed, mindful breathing can act like a tranquilizer for your nervous system. Practice the 4-7-8 method of mindful breathing, as you inhale through your nose for a count of four, hold for a count of eight, then exhale through your mouth for a count of eight. Repeat several times as you relax and drift off to sleep. Want to read more about specific #yoga poses and #meditative techniques? Of course you do! Chill Out-- The optimal temperature range for quality sleep is 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The cooler temperature cues our circadian clock that’s it’s time to sleep. Too cold? Studies show that weighted blankets improve sleep, or double up on your comforter. And if your toes are cold, wear socks to bed! #sleeptipsunday #sleepytime #sleepisgood #sleeptips #snoozefest #chillout #sleepforhealth #sleepisimportant #hypothyroidhelp #hashimotoshealing #hypothyroidism #hashimotos

The amount of sunlight you get during the day has a profound affect on your sleep. Our sleep pattern in set in our brains via the light information taken in through our retinas. These days we’re exposed to so much artificial light that our internal clocks get disturbed, which means you may find it harder to fall asleep, and stay asleep during the night. 🌿 Dr. Michael Breus, PhD, The Sleep Doctor™ says “Light exposure at the wrong time can interfere with sleep, keeping you alert and preventing your body from engaging in its natural progression toward sleep. But increasing your exposure to sunlight in the morning may help you to fall asleep at night.” . . . #thesleepdr #drmichaelbreus #sleepadvice #sleeptips #sunlight #naturallight #forestlight #bluebellwood #trees #wood #sunshine #lightontrees #sleepcycle #internalbodyclock #light

DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES. A smile. Rolling over. First steps. These moments in your baby's development are exciting! New milestones however, can often temporarily impact their sleep patterns causing more frequent waking. Allow your child to practice this skill over and over again during the day - that way their night time sleep will not be affected for too long.

Your 5th Christmas sleep tip is a good one! Lots of toddlers have a favorite lovey, but make sure you have an identical one for when the other one is in the wash, or goes missing. This will save a mad dash to the store when your little one refuses to go to sleep without their lovey.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #babysleep #toddlersleep #christmasiscoming #12tipsofchristmas #sleeptips #naptime #babywontsleep #mylittlesleeper #momlife #mumlife #sleepdeprivedmom #chicagoparent
