Why are you looking to do unstable surface training when you can use variability in the bar and /or tool? . . This is a fantastic way to allow the athlete to remain stable, but to challenge the balancing and smaller muscles. . . The partner supine row offers both athletes great opportunities to learn and get stronger. While the supporting athlete should work a bit more on spinal strength and stability, the bottom partner works on posterior chain activation and strength. . . But be sure the athlete can hold their spine safely. This example is the furthest well let a YOUNG athlete position their spine out of correct form. With this pair we kept the repetitions down to 2-4 per set, just 2 sets, using it to drive home major spinal stability points for each athlete. . . #teamtraining #stronger #spines #stabile #athletes . . . . The Bird Dog is a fabulous core exercise which challenges both your stability and balance all at once. . I’ve often seen versions where the leg is above the glutes. Not only does that take the emphasis off the glutes but also puts additional stress on your lumbar region which places it in a hyperextended position. So keep the leg slightly lower than the glutes to get the full benefit of this great exercise. . Keep that core braced throughout the movement and don’t let your posture slump. . Neck alignment is something that’s never mentioned with exercises but that’s also part of your spine so keeping that aligned with the rest of the back will ensure good neutral posture. . Regrann from fp_stephanie - All the way from Ohio... gait cycle comparison of my client and colleague jacobcannon_ after 2 four hour sessions. Both of these were taken at 12.0 mph - thoracic rotation is noticeably increased/greater angle between hip flexion and extension. #recap Client came in with lower back pain and it’s evident not only looking at it but what I felt along her lower lumbar area where the QL is located felt like a thick rubberband. It was very hypertonic along with her Erectors. Bad Posture is definitely a factor as she stated she dances a lot leaning to her right . . The QL has the ability to lift/pull hips and shift posture when tight so better postural awareness and maintenance with me and at home can definitely help this client promote balance back to her posture. Therefore reducing pain and further issues that may occur. TRX Chest Stretch. . Many of my clients know I have a love-hate relationship with this stretch because it’s an excellent stretch for the pectorals major (which many of us need) but it is often performed incorrectly. . ❌ On the left, notice how James’ ribs flare up and his low back is extended(arched). This tells me his anterior core and his glutes are not firing to stabilize his trunk and pelvis. When this happens, he’s just jamming the ball forward in the socket of his shoulder. Over time this can lead to shoulder instability and injuries. . ✅ On the right, notice how his ribs are down and his low back is much less extended. Here, his anterior core and glutes are keeping his spine neutral and allowing him to get a true stretch in his pecs. . In my last post I mentioned “looking at how each part functions relative to the system as a whole”. This is one example. There is a lot more going on than just stretching the chest. There is total body tensioning to keep in proper alignment. . Hope this helps! Comment/message for questions! 💪🏼
