Post workout meal courtesy of ilovecitykitchen today. - Loving the convenience of my food right now. - So many great suppliers of calorie controlled and healthy meals around. - Malaysian coconut beef curry today. - 440k/cal 23g Protein. - Only criticism is the lack of clear calorie labelling on some of these foods. Let’s make it easier for people than more difficult. Especially when it’s actually a positive. - #food #calories #diet #protein #convenience #balanced #healthy #education #clients #fatloss #weightloss #phillearney #aca

#Repost phillearney with get_repost ・・・ I remember years ago. I was working on a project alongside arguably one of the greatest Pilates practioners in the world. - I sat and discussed with him about the ‘cult’ of Pilates and how he felt about it. Given that he was someone these people would literally go out of their way around his reaction was refreshing. - His response was firstly a rye smile, followed by him saying how these people just ‘don’t get it’. He said how they literally believe it’s a solution to all physical ailments and the ‘only’ way to strengthen the body. I asked him why he didn’t try to get that across to them. He said ‘they won’t listen as they’ve been sold the dream and they’ve bought into it. They now disregard facts and only have beliefs’. - A man largely responsible for a huge chunk of the Pilates movement was dismissing it for what it wasn’t and embracing it for what it was. - What brought me to remember this conversation? - I’ve spoken with some of the industries foremost ‘evidence based’ practitioners over the past few weeks. All of which had that rye smile I remember. They’re fully aware that something they’ve been a large part of has gotten largely out of hand and turned into something it actually isn’t. Coaches looking for identity by following and basing their arguments on something they don’t fully understand. - Coaches who have lost all ability to critically think. To innovate or explore anything outside of what ‘science tells us’. For the most part the people in this current movement are insufficiently trained to even take scientific evidence and actually interpret it into any semblance of answers. - Science is a tool. It allows us to establish better start points in what we do. It allows us to make better decisions and to be able to coach with evidence heavily supporting us. Not to let it dictate but to let it have its democratic vote. - Thank you to the_issn, dannylennon_sigmanutrition, helms3dmj and laurent_bannock for the reminder of this over the past few weeks. - #evidencebased #science #sports #data #facts #beliefs #fitness #industry #trends #personaltrainer #coaches #phillearney #aca

Business Tip for those of you wanting to be actual Personal Trainers or coaches. - Now, one of the issues here may be your inability to deal with your own s***. If you can't this isn't gonna help you much. If you've already dealt with that you'll probably laugh at what I write. Maybe even acknowledging the moments when that's been you. - By default our industry is full of egos (not everyone). It's an image based industry therefore it tends to draw people who are largely appearing 'full of themselves'. If they're not, a few months in the industry and they start to follow suit as they perceive that's the way to 'make it'. - It's also by default full of insecurity (why many of us started training in the first place, me included) so we constantly seek acknowledgement or praise from anyone we can. (perhaps why most of the PT industry is also on Tinder). We want people to tell us how great we look on social media, in the gym or wherever we can. - Due to this PTs approach potential clients on social media, in the gym and anywhere else by telling those people typically how great they are. - Directly or indirectly. - Consciously or subconsciously. - This may be endless pics of your butt, your abs, your amazing dedication to 'killing it' or your endless work ethics. All heavily edited from fact of course. - At all points failing to listen or consider the needs of the people we largely deal with. The people with the same insecurities. - PTs largely only approach people to tell them they're doing things wrong. Never to pass praise or tell someone how great they're doing. - PTs become the exact reason people are scared to step foot in a gym. Yes you're THAT person. Especially in commercial facilities. The person in the stringer vest, the person in the gym clique. The person who only speak to other people in shape. - Now, I'm talking here from experience here of dealing with coaches who are unable to make their businesses work. Coaches who can't understand why the middle aged coach with two kids in the gym is always busier than they are. - To read more click the link in my BIO - #coaching #fatloss #weightloss #personaltraining #training #exercise #phillearney

It’s not about soreness. One of the topics I was asked about several times this past weekend. - Often seen as a positive and necessity to development. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) doesn’t appear to be an indicator of muscle damage but of connective tissue inflammation, specifically the extra cellular matrix. Irrespective of how hard a muscle is trained the 48 hour protein synthesis period is unaltered. - Soreness surpassing this time period is reflective of the connective tissue inflammation therefore pushing yourself to the point that soreness surpasses that 48 hour window would appear to be counterproductive and in conflict with the benefits achieved with added training frequency, adding intensity and added volume. - In laymans terms. Training 18 sets of a muscle group one day a week would create diminishing load volume (amount of weight moved during the workout), diminishing intensity (you have to maintain intensity for 18 sets) and diminished frequency (The muscle is hit once every 7 days). This may go against conventional wisdom and bodybuilding 'tradition' but current evidence suggests that training 9 sets twice a week would be more beneficial on all fronts. Despite currently lacking studies it would even be suggested that training 6 sets three times a week may be even more beneficial. - The latter two protocols all yielding better, volume, intensity and frequency for hypertrophy. Just because a muscle isn’t sore, doesn’t mean its not progressing. - Excerpt from Advanced Coaching Academy Training Theory module - #training #hypertrophy #bodybuilding #muscle #coaching #nutrition #education #progress #overload #businessacumen #advancedcoaching #ACA #phillearney
