Low Back Pain Rehab Series (Part 1 of 4) _ I love prescribing core exercises that involve moving a heavy object while stabilizing the trunk. The strategies the athlete employs to do this gives a lot of info on the efficiency, or in many cases where pathology or dysfunction is present, the lack thereof to complete the task which can help guide physical therapy treatment. _ "Traditional" body weight core exercises (static planks, bird dogs, etc) can certainly be effective especially when experiencing acute or very reactive pain. But in the context of enhancing fitness simultaneously with injury rehabilitation, stabilizing the trunk while moving heavy external loads may address multiple additional goals of the athlete and helps pushes them further along the road to recovery. _ This elevated renegade row allows for a greater range of motion on the rowing part, thus placing a greater demand on trunk anti-rotation including deep, local segmental spine-stabilizing muscles like the rotatores and other transversospinalis muscles. I'll take these over sit-ups any day for a core exercise!

Two days ago we we had a little glimpse of summer 🌞. I was planning on running at lunch but as previously posted was in a bit of pain after my morning run and didn’t want to push it. Instead I brought out my trusty mace and worked out by the wather, finished my work out with this little mobility flow. Let’s just say it was so right on the money, I had to repost it. - #Repost joegambinodpt with get_repost ・・・ 💡I am very cautious about applying a name to a person’s injury, because many people identify themselves with it. _ 🔋“I have this”, or “I am in pain because of that” are common things people say. _ ⏳What this does is make people conceptualize their pain as being out of their control and that they are destined to be in pain forever because of it. _ ⚙️The truth is we have pain because our body perceives a threat, and it’s requesting you make a change. _ ⛓Often times improving ones movement dysfunctions, reducing repetitive loads, and building strength can help decrease pain and improve function. _ 💣Don’t let a MRI or medical diagnosis make you think you are destined for a life sentence of pain. You are not your injury. _ 🛑Disclaimer: Yes there can be some serious injuries that can require surgery, or some other much more significant course of action. 10 minutes of jumprope is equivalent to a 30 minute jog on the treadmill at 6.5 mph. You do not have to jump that 10 minutes straight but there are things that you can do to enhance the intensity. Have space? Use it! Why stay in one spot? Why be bored? Be sure to register for my NYC Class where I will teach you other techniques make the most of your jump rope workout. #MakeItFunNyc
