‘He who would, in this Month, be warm within, And when abroad, from Wet defend his Skin, His Morning’s draught should be of Sack or Sherry, And his Great Coat be made of Drab-de-berry.’ - ‘February’ by Edward Ward Image: ‘February’, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1893 (no.244), by William Banks Fortescue (1850-1924), previously with Richard Green. February can be a hard month, why else would Shakespeare coin the unflattering phase ‘February face’: “So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness?" (Much Ado About Nothing). It is also full of inspirational beauty and hope – here are some wonderful images and words dedicated to February to help get through it. #ThrowbackThursday #February #WilliamBanksFortescue #NewlynSchool #richardgreengallery #RichardGreen #London #ModernBritish #Mayfair #BondStreet #19thCentury #British #Painter #Artist

Julian Otto Trevelyan 1910–1988 — (2/3) Trevelyan’s main concern in his Surrealist work was the construction of a new collective myth of the city, a theme that had fascinated him from childhood. He described how he ‘had invented a sort of mythology of cities, of fragile structures carrying here and there a few waif-like inhabitants’. Trevelyan was engaged by his old student friend Humphrey Jennings to contribute to Mass Observation (1937–8), and the urban images which resulted, utilised collage and torn shreds of newspaper, an attempt to express his personal myth of the gritty urban working-class environment. He would leave the Surrealists before the outbreak of world war two, later commenting that ‘It became absurd to compose Surrealist confections, when high explosives could do it so much better," — London Scene, 1935 (Oil on canvas, 65 x 81.4 cm) is for view and sale at the gallery. It was his fond memories of eating honey ice cream at the seashore with his grandparents that inspired Chef Arron Rhodes to create the Honey Ice Cream Factory. Delicate honey ice cream on a bed of honeycomb crunch joined by a white chocolate honeycomb and salted biscuit. Drizzled with local honey from Fanling. Crunchy, salty and perfectly sweet. This dessert is simply splendid. #honeyicecream #honeycomb #gourmeticecream #dessert #hongkong #hongkongrestaurant #bestdesserts #modernbritish
