The street art scene in Kochi is alive and well. This is a detail shot from a piece by Ajin K.K. and Arjun K.K., located outside Cabral Yard on Muhammad Road. #ajinkk #arjunkk #streetart #graffiti #cabralyard #fortkochi #kochi #cochin #kerala #india #travel #findtheawesome

So nice we ate there twice. Bademiya in Mumbai ( bademiya_kebabs) has been grilling its signature seekh kebabs since 1946. The super-juicy minced lamb skewers are the ultimate late-night fix, and cheap to boot. For vegetarians, there is a divine paneer tikka roll made with fresh roti, like the one being slapped around here. #bademiya #mumbai #bombay #india #kebab #streetmeat #streetfood #cheapeats #travel #findtheawesome

When shopping for camel leather juttis and mojaris at the 145-year-old Rajasthani Nagra Shoe Factory in Jaipur, sit your butt on the bench and do nothing. Within seconds, workers who call you "my dear" will descend upon you with dozens of options, fitting and refitting styles till they find your ultimate Cinderella match. #rajasthaninagra #jaipur #rajasthan #india #jutti #mojari #camel #shoes #shopping #travel #cartotravel #findtheawesome

Quick, dirt-cheap breakfast idea in Jaipur: Indian Coffee House on M.I. Road, run by a co-operative of the Indian Coffee Society. A mutton dosa or keema omelet costs pocket change, but the atmosphere--relaxed, familial, and of another era--is priceless. #indiancoffeehouse #indiancoffeesociety #jaipur #india #coffeeshop #breakfast #cheapeats #travel #findtheawesome

Our takeaway from the nearly 100-year-old Parsi Dairy Farm in Kalbadevi? A kitsch box stuffed with mawa barfi, kaju katu, bundi laddu, milk cake, malai sandwiches, and sweet, sweet pedas. Not pictured (because we ate it all): a fat round of kesa pista kulfi, the best in Bombay. #parsidairyfarm #kalbadevi #bombay #mumbai #india #dessert #indiansweets #cheapeats #travel #findtheawesome

The dahi puri at Elco Pani Puri Co. in Bandra West is outrageously good: six bite-size puffy puri shells stuffed with a spicy chickpea mash, ladled with mint and tamarind chutneys, drenched in yogurt, and showered with crispy mung beans and chopped coriander. Ordering seconds is a no-brainer. #dahipuri #elcopanipurico #bandrawest #mumbai #bombay #india #streetfood #cheapeats #indianfood #travel #findtheawesome

Nobody does street-cool beading, neon sequins, and J-pop appliqué like Indian fashion lord Manish Arora ( manisharorafashion). We spotted this rad constellation dress at Colaba concept shop Bombay Electric ( bombayelectric), where the psychedelic pashminas, disco bangles, flowy kaftans, and bejeweled turbans by local designers are also worth a look. #manisharora #bombayelectric #colaba #bombay #mumbai #india #fashion #embroidery #beading #sewing #textile #shopping #travel #findtheawesome

If the buyers at anthropologie aren’t scouting Arawali in Jaipur on the regular, they’re losing out. The 25-year-old textile emporium trades in patchwork silk blankets, block-printed bed spreads, embroidered pillow cases, buttery cashmere shawls, and hand-tooled leather notebooks. The looks are very now, but the prices are a fraction of what you’d pay in the States. #arawalitextiles #jaipur #rajasthan #india #bedding #design #homedesign #decor #bohemian #patchwork #silk #textile #fabric #sewing #shopping #travel #findtheawesome

If you get the chance to observe an opium-welcoming ceremony in India, take it. Chhotaram Prajapat of Salawas brings travelers on four- to eight-hour tours of his neighboring rural villages, among them a tiny Bishnoi pocket where the (now illegal) tradition is to welcome guests with cups opium-laced tea. Here, an elder tribesman grinds the plant with a mortar and pestle before filtering it in an elaborate setup handed down by his great-great-great grandparents. #bishnoi #chhotaramprajapat #salawas #jodhpur #rajasthan #india #villagelife #opium #tea #fixer #travel #findtheawesome

There’s something mildly disturbing about the folk art at the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal museum in Udaipur, India—as if the dusty puppets, masks, and dolls on display might come alive at any minute. Sure enough, that’s what happens in its kathputli theatre, which hosts daily marionette shows modeled after the ones that once entertained royals. You probably won’t have any idea what’s happening onstage, but a little ribald puppetry never hurt anyone. Especially since this show will only set you back a dollar, museum entrance and camera fee included. #bharatiyalokkalamandal #udaipur #CGudaipur #rajasthan #india #CGindia #puppet #folkart #travel #findtheawesome

#regram cartogrammebombayelectric is to Mumbai what openingceremony is to New York. Which is to say—ground zero for avant-garde cool. And though the Colaba concept shop dabbles in menswear, what you’re really maxing out your CCs on are the lady goods: tiered satin necklaces by forestofchintz, graphic beaded clutches by bhartijesrani, neon embroidered cobra backpacks from manisharorafashion, and post-modern acrylic epaulettes by littleshilpa. Home goods also rank high—you know you *need* a vintage brass tiffin, old Bollywood playbills, and back issues of motherlandmagazine. #bombayelectric #colaba #mumbai #CGmumbai #bombay #india #CGindia #openingceremony #ombre #avantgarde #fashion #travel #findtheawesome”

Kala Ghoda Café can be total madness when it’s busy—its small team struggling to keep up with the seemingly endless lines. But have patience; it’s worth waiting for a table at this sun-glazed cafe/bakery/gallery in Mumbai’s historic art district. (If you get real lucky, they’ll seat you in the loft of the 20th-century converted barn—affording you a bird’s eye view of the chaos below.) The salads and sandwiches are hearty as all get out; this rocket number is loaded with apples, carrots, strawberries, South Indian goat cheese, and toasted nuts, and drizzled with honey and a French-style vinaigrette. If that doesn’t make you feel marginally better about the anvil-heavy curries you destroyed the night before, nothing will. #kalaghodacafe #mumbai #bombay #CGmumbai #india #CGindia #vegetarian #travel #findtheawesome

The newest reason to visit Fort Kochi art enclave Pepper House is its one-month-old eponymous design shop. Co-owner Tinky Mathew is all about cool pieces by Indian artisans. Among the goods are airy, embroidered tunics from Rouka by Sreejith Jeevan ( sreejithjeevan), a Kochi designer, and matchbook-size comic books—packed in actual matchbooks!—by Bangalore’s Studio Kokaachi. Representing Kerala are sturdy ceramic mugs and beer steins from ClayFingers Pottery, hand-illustrated gift wrap by Heena Pari ( heena.pari), and raw stone jewelry from Boho Gypsy. #pepperhouse #fortkochi #kochi #cochin #kerala #india #kochibiennale #tinkymathew #bohogypsy #studiokokaachi #rouka #sreejithjeevan #heenapari #clayfingers #design #decor #shopping #travel #findtheawesome

Ninety-nine percent of the time, we do not condone ordering room service. What’s the point in traveling halfway around the globe to pay an outrageous premium for a sad club sandwich and soggy fries? Go out, dammit! Eat your face off! Explore! The one exception to our house rule is the room service at the Hotel Hong Kong Inn in Amritsar, India. This otherwise unremarkable three-star budget inn is working magic in its vegetarian kitchen. This buttery tandoori kulcha with spicy chickpea curry was blow-your-mind good, to say nothing of the tasty sarson da saag, a rustic local dish made from mustard leaves and served with piping-hot makki di roti (unleavened Punjabi corn bread). And yes, you do want to pay extra for the breakfast in the morning. TRUST. #hotelhongkonginn #amritsar #punjab #india #CGindia #indianfood #punjabifood #roomservice #travel #findtheawesome

#CGdispatch from Detroit: "Eldorado General Store ( eldoradogeneralstore) is a well-curated vintage shop stocked with unique treasures and goods. Browsing gives you a glimpse into the beautiful mind of owner Erin Galve—one of those locals you just want to know. Her stock includes posters, notecards, a popular lunar calendar from Michigan artist worthwhilepaper, pendants made of bullet casings by Detroit metalsmith sparklegarden, and many crystals and sage bundles, ready to smudge any space with questionable vibes. But oh, the vintage! Each piece has an informative tag describing what the item is and where it was found. to our latest #FollowFriday muse, Ms. Michelle Rene Halpern, a.k.a. mrhalpern. Michelle is a long-term solo traveler with a vagabond spirit and an upbeat outlook on life. When she arrived at the Taj Mahal a week ago to find its glorious minarets encased in scaffolding and its manicured grounds flooded with tourists, she made the best of the situation. “In these moments it could be so easy to succumb to disappointment and to tell yourself that you’ll never be in that place again and how frustrating is it that it’s not the way you imagined it?” she writes. “But isn’t that life? Isn’t that what keeps things interesting and makes your experience unique and your own? You can either choose to remember days like this as a let down or just roll with the punches, stay present, and be grateful for it all. Because you’re still in an incredible place living out a story that is no one else’s but your own.” We like the way she thinks. For more introspective posts and purty pictures, give her a follow at mrhalpern. #CGfollows #FF #mrhalpern #tajmahal #agra #india #CGindia #landscape #scenery #architecture #mughal #ivory #mausoleum #unesco #travelphotography #travel #findtheawesome by mrhalpern

You’d be wise to cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief when exploring Khari Baoli, the largest wholesale spice bazaar in Asia. It’s not that the Indian street smells bad—it actually smells amazing. But one deep breath and you’ll be coughing/choking on chili powder fumes to the point of tears. Thousands of shoppers come here every day to pick up herbs, spices, nuts, grains, pulses, pickles, chutney, tea, salt, and regional specialties like masala cashews, nutty jaggery cakes, puffed lotus seeds, and dried plums from Kashmir. The centuries-old thoroughfare is located at the western end of chaotic Chandi Chowk market in Old Delhi, adjacent to the imposing Fatehpuri Masjid, which is also worth a gander. To help make sense of the madness, here and elsewhere in Old Delhi, sign up for a tour with Anubhav Sapra of delhifoodwalks. He knows the area inside and out and will show you all of the best stuff, from lamb kebabs to secret kulfi spots. #kharibaoli #olddelhi #delhi #CGdelhi #india #CGindia #chandnichowk #spicemarket #delhifoodwalks #bazaar #travel #findtheawesome
