VII Photo ( viiphoto) member, Ed Kashi ( edkashi), is still taking over the #Blink #IG feed with his work on Everyday Climate Change ( everydayclimatechange)! The above photograph depicts locals going about their routines, stepping over #garbage heaps that burn along the railroad tracks in #Kaduna, #Nigeria. According to a Sept. 2014 Climate Central article, 1.1 billion tons, or around 40% of the world’s waste is disposed of by burning in open fires. The emissions that come from these fires release harmful #pollutants into the #air that damage the #environment and impact #climatechange #actionclimate #climatechangeisreal

Photo by edkashi Women pick through second hand clothes the weekly market of the small village of Bonsaaso, Ghana. While Ghana is considered one of Africa’s success stories, there is still tremendous under development and the need for good roads, clean water, better education, women’s health and empowerment, and more opportunities for employment. This village is part of the Millennium Villages Project. Jeffrey Sachs, founder of the Millennium Villages Project with the help of Millennium Promise, UNOPS and Earth Institute of Columbia University, is seeking to eliminate poverty in Africa by addressing “the root causes of extreme poverty, taking a holistic, community-led approach to sustainable development,” which draws from science, government, business and civil society to empower communities. The goal of this project is to have the local people manage, organize and implement these changes, so the improvements are sustainable and their fate is in their own hands. Blue Chip Foundation and VII Agency documented the final year of the Millennium Villages Project in 2015. A exhibition featuring selected photographs is being held for the month of December at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. We created a book that will be available for purchase. earthinstitute viiphoto #Africa #everydayafrica #betonlife #ghana #sdgs #unitednations #bonsaaso #sdg8 #sdg5 #endingpoverty #betonwomen #sustainabledevelopment
