The problem with me writing a book review is that I always feel biased to book I read last. However, even after a couple of days of reading this one, I would still go out and tell everyone to put it on their #tbr. Sensitive, warm, fuzzy, scary, painful. The entire book is a roller coaster of emotions. It's an emotional journey of a mother searching for her daughter in a #dystopian world to close to reality. Shalini, the main protagonist of the book, takes us back and forth in a crumbling world where freedom to love, marry and live life on your terms is looked down upon. Where in the name of culture and tradition families are torn apart and live in fear of being torn apart. The entire fabric of society seems so fragile in this world that you tiptoe into the next page fearing that your ‘democratic’ world isn’t suddenly destroyed. All in all a must read and I'm glad to have started the year with this one.

ÇOK ÇOK ÖNEMLİ BİR ESER. YORUMU OKUMADAN GEÇMEYİNİZ. . Yuval Noah Harari》Sapiens . . HAYVANLARDAN TANRILARA . Günün ikinci önerisi😊 . #okuyucuyorumu . .

Six Things Sunday/// 1. Still making my way through this gorgeous book. 2. My book sleeve is a thing of joy. I got my #sloth beauty from lyraandco and I am so in love with it. 3. Tomorrow is Saraswati Pujo. A day to worship the Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge. 4. We, Bengalis- don't read or write on Saraswati Pujo. A day away from our books. When I was a child this meant a day of joy. Now, I don't know what to do with myself! 5. Today has included naps, reading, making travel plans and tidying up my room and washing some of my plushies. 6. The plan for tonight is to watch the new Thor movie and a new episode of Death in Paradise. . . #sixthingssunday #thoughts #musings #unutteredmusings #flatlay #bookish #booksofinstagram #classics #ALittlePrincess #puffinbooks #puffininbloom #bookcover #bookstagramfeature #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #bookphotography #stationerygoodies #stationeryjunkie #littlethings #livethelittlethings #livefolk #mumbai #createcommune

Widow Chuan by Lao Hsiang as retold by Lin Yutang. This novelette, L. Yutang describes as one of the best Chinese novelettes. It explores several plots - one of the main characters is a vivacious and wicked old widow. Widowhood was an “institution onto itself in Chinese social life” describes Yutang. Throughout the story, Widow Chuan is shown to be bold, dominant and snarky. She rarely follows what is told by the society - even her daughters were known to be never “ill at ease in public” as opposed to what was expected of women. Widow Chuan can perhaps be best described in Yutang’s introduction - “...she was a personality if she was an institution in the village, it was against all that Confucius ever taught and believed. At least to the widow, Confucius was a fiction, she was life. She had to make the best of her life, with or without Confucius.” What is remarkable about the story is that it doesn’t attempt to be a voice of reason. It doesn’t disguise a social message through sloppily made characters - as a lot of stories these days happen to do. It is first and foremost a story of humour. (Yutang played a huge part in introducing the western concept of humour to Chinese literature - although this knowledge is from a bare reading of this book and an explanation of the book I read subsequently) What I did feel lacking was a connection - it took me a while week to read a mere 158 pages. I kept losing track and kept dozing off. Maybe it was the time set or the fact that a Chinese village is so outside my comprehension (something the predatory note cautions). But, definitely something I would like to read again. And would definitely like to read more of Yutang. 😁 Have you read any Chinese literature? Also - I feel like translated literature is so engrossing because you keep thinking if it would be better in its original form. Does that happen to you? What is the most recent translated lit you have read? #igerindia #igindia #bookstagramindia #tacklestack #bookish #bookphoto #bookreview #bookgram #bookishfeatures #chineseliterature #translatedbooks #translatedliterature #2018reads #januaryreads #finishedreading #booksofinstagram #vscobooks #vsco #vscocam

"Our Lady of the Prairie" by onegreytoe is one of those books that fit like a glove: it seemed perfect for me, a overworked brain who thinks too much day in and day out. I could totally relate to the protagonist, Phillipa. Her decisions may prima facie seem erratic, but that is how life is: we do things not with the intention of living a perfect plot. Sometimes, we just live. Birds, without the bird's eye view. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars. I just reviewed Americanah on my blog (see link in bio). I’m quite please with myself for having managed to read three books in three weeks. Can you believe we’re already 20 days into 2018?! - - Last week I asked you to suggest some books set in Spain, Germany, and Italy. This is because I’d like to expand my ‘readingsphere’ (I think I just coined the term😉) and read more books from Europe. I have noticed that I focus a lot more on literature from the United States (a weakness). So I thought I’d list out some of the books people suggested. A big thank you to everyone who DM-ed me with book titles. I am planning to read just one book from each of the 5 countries I’ve chosen. — Italy: -Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco -Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch -Call me by your name by Andre Aciman -A Room with a view by E.M Foster — Spain: -100 years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez -The sun also rises by Ernest Hemingway -The time in between by Maria Duenas -Love in small letters by Francesc Miralles -Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon __ Germany: -The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah -The Reader by Bernard Schlick — Photographed above are the two books I’ve shortlisted for the Neatherlands and France. A Moveable Feast is set in Paris and the Miniaturist has to do with Amsterdam. I thing it will be fun to start a #booksofeurope tag. Let me know how you feel about this. Do suggest more books in the comments below if you can. You could also use the above hashtag and join me in reading more from Europe.

"I spent my life folded between the pages of books. In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.” ― Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me . . #bibliophile #bookstagram #booklove #booknerdigan #bookobsessed #bookstagramindia #booknerd #bookstagramfeature #bookishfeatures #booknookstagram #igreads #instabook #instaread #bookishallure #libraryofbookstagram #bookstafeatures #epicreads #bookstagramindiafeature
