#throwbackthursday: Jay'la, Allison, Amaiya, and Micah (DLS, Class of 2012), study the lungs of pigs at 8th Grade Career Day. Somehow it's been well over a year since these students graduated from high school!

#transformationtuesday: A Word with Our Graduates . Austin Davis (De La Salle '11, Maryville '19) | In what ways do you continue to feel connected to the mission? . I think just me being me, it’s kind of impossible to not carry what De La Salle has done for me on a day to day basis. Realizing that I’m the person I am now, because they instilled in me when I was at a young age - when I was not as mature or didn’t have as much wisdom. So me just leading an organization, being a mentor, making the Dean’s List - that’s stuff that De La Salle put into me. And the fact that I’m still doing those things, shows that I’m still living the De La Salle mission. I mean it was just a great school. And a lot of people ask what high school I went to, but I always tell them about De La Salle, too. Because that’s important. Because if it wasn’t for De La Salle, I probably wouldn’t have gotten to CBC.

Today, some of our students elected to wear their Black Lives Matter shirts. When I asked why, Javeon (Grade 8) said: "It was needed for our community. Because of the injustice happening against black people. It was needed."

Anybody wonder what black joy looks like? In my perspective, black joy can be many things. To me, Black Joy is not being afraid of showing your true colors despite what the opposition may think. Black Joy is having fun in the midst of chaotic times. Black Joy is expressing yourself to the fullest with no reservations. Black Joy is letting the whole world know you exist and operate through the beat of a different drum. Black Joy is awesomeness personified. Black Joy is loving yourself first and foremost. Black Joy is finding your happiness and your place in the self validation process. Black Joy is speaking, hearing, tasting, smelling, seeing, touching living, and breathing your truth. And finally, Black Joy is recognizing the God in yourself and in others. If you read this and thought it was about a black girl named Joy, you've missed the point. 📸: sindayiganza #blackjoyproject #blackjoy #AfroPunk #brooklyn #foxears #mookie #spikelee #dotherighthing #malcolmx #hat #glasses #beard #photography

Every day at La Salle Middle School, students come into our building knowing that they will be cared for and loved. And as educators, we commit to doing everything in our power to ensure that the American Dream is within their reach, because we believe that it can be imagined in a way that is big enough for all of us. This week, with the decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), this administration has taken yet another step to strip immigrant families of this Dream. This move is unjust and it is cruel. . And we will not rest until this Dream is truly afforded to all of us. To the 800,000 DREAMers, we stand with you. . Artwork: Susan Simensky Bietila
