If only grocery shops in the country elsewhere were this organised! Not to mention all the interesting #vegetables they had, some I had no clue about. #groceryshop #roadsofindia #highwaysofindia #ontheroad #solotravel #beinginplaces #northeastindia #nagaland #musings

Today is the last day of the #hornbillfestival this year and this is one of my favourite photos, one where the #tribesmen are enjoying the cultural programme just as much as the visitors, while I marveled at their attire and the cute little feathers tucked at the ears.. what an event it is! #travelmemories #throwback #nagaland #northeastindia #solotravel #festivalsofindia #culturalheritage #coloursofindia #beinginplaces

And then there were these sweet and sour plum and berries pickles made in Myanmar that made way here. So tasty, every visitor here must try it! And they come in various variety of tastes 😋 There are so many edibles and snacks treats that make way across the border. Wonder what other interesting items could be found 😀 #foodandtravel #foodandculture #beinginplaces #solotravel #travelmemories #northeastindia #nagaland #musings #sweetandsour #pickles #myfavorite

And once, a lady from Moreh, the disturbed borderland between Manipur in India and Myanmar, now living in Nagaland brought over this dish for us to taste. I think it was called turumbai or something; a suacy, spicy dried fish dish that would excite all the taste buds at once and linger on forever. It was delicious, but spicy of course. I wonder if I'd get back the taste and #travelmemories back if I went to Myanmar... I have a feeling that there are SO much similarities between SE Asia and NE India #foodandtravel #foodandculture #beinginplaces #solotravel #localfood #fishdish #northeastindia #nagaland #musings

The other similar dish I found in #nagaland was mustard greens. We half cook them and call them rye or raayo ko saag, they boil it almost blandly without really chopping it and call them Lai saag. Also, I think this is probably the only dish that isn't spicy. #foodandtravel #beinginplaces #foodandculture #solotravel #travelmemories #localfood #northeastindia #saag #mustardgreens

During my stay at #nagaland I was exposed to the world of pork meat like never before. Almost every household had pigs and I was told that pork was the cheapest meat there. Once, I had the experience of witnessing how a particular dish was prepared and also served it for dinner. It was interesting particularly because the dish consisted mainly of the legs, ears and bony parts of an otherwise fleshy animal. It was cured over fire, cleaned and ensured it was good to be eaten and prepared as a spicy dish. #foodandtravel #foodandculture #pork #localfood #northeastindia #beinginplaces #nagaland #travelmemories

Roadside eateries or dhabas in #nagaland are called Rice hotels, and they serve some of the best #localfood. Rice is the staple here too. I had this perfect milk based sweet dish that proves food other than rice also tastes good in their rice hotels 😉 #foodandtravel #foodandculture #beinginplaces #solotravel #northeastindia #dairy #sweetdish #wishiknewitsname #musings

Old Kohima has houses built inbetween graves. This one was just below the house I stayed and there were two more. May be a family buried together? It's so casual that there could be nothing spooky about it. But imagine living amongst souls back to 1956! #travelmemories #beinginplaces #solotravel #northeastindia #nagaland #grave #dead #musings

What I noticed in #nagaland is that the villages here end with a 'ma'; Kohima, Khonoma, Jotsoma, Viswema.. wonder what its connotation is.. and the village gates are like stepping into a Hollywood action movie. So real and original to the place and it's history and #culturalheritage #beinginplaces #solotravel #northeastindia #villagegate #travelmemories #musings #culture #indiaeveryday

Churpi. A hard, chewy dairy product. We call them churpi. I wonder what the people of #nagaland call them. We sure seem to have some common interests. #churpi #dairy #foodandtravel #localfood # #foodandculture #beinginplaces #solotravel #similarfoods #wallgrounds #northeastindia

The first time I had eaten ghonghi was at a festival in Nepal. It was just a new experience then and I couldn't really say if I found them tasty. This time at #nagaland where it was cooked with garlic and spices and claimed to have eggs within, I can proclaim that they were tasty, yes. 😁 Ghonghi is a snail dish where you're supposed to suck the snail flesh out of its shell. It's quite a sucking experience 😁 #ghonghi #snails #localfood #exotic #foodandtravel #beinginplaces #solotravel #northeastindia #foodandculture #wallgrounds #travelmemories
