Cover art I did for a 70's Indonesian prog reissue last year. Not sure if it ever made it to the states... 🤖

Musical-Mike: 20 great female voices of the 70’s. Counting down the 20 biggest female singles chart makers of what was a great decade for music by women. No. 2. Not unlike her character Sandy in “Grease”, Olivia Newton-John (1948-) also went thru a transformation of sorts in the 70’s. English born but Australian raised Newton-John had been singing as a duo and then solo with modest success in clubs and TV for about 5 years when with the encouragement of Helen Reddy she also took the leap and came to the States. Starting with a country sound her first hit was a Dylan cover “If Not for You.” Two years later “Let Me Be There” became a major hit with Newton-John earning the first of 4 Grammys controversially in the Country category. “I Honestly Love You” became her signature some, winning another Grammy and was the first of 5 No.1’s. “Have You Ever Been Mellow” also hit No. 1 and became her second No. 1 album. With her career loosing steam 3 years later her casting in the smash musical “Grease” with Travolta together with its blockbuster soundtrack and three more Newton-John hits including the No. 1 “You’re the One That I Want” with Travolta her career rose to a whole new level. With a more harder pop sensibility, her final and most successful studio album of the decade “Totally Hot” and its smash single “A Little More Love” was just the beginning of even bigger things in the 80’s. Starting in pop, moving to being a country music sweetheart she then became a pop music bombshell sounds like someone else we know on the charts today? A singer, entrepreneur, environmentalist, songwriter and actress with 2 platinum, 4 double platinum and 8 gold albums, 2 platinum and 9 gold singles, Newton-John performing country, dance, pop or a mash of all of these does it with conviction, optimism and credibility. “Maybe I hang around here, A little more than I should, We both know I got somewhere else to go, But I got something to tell you, That I never thought I would, But I believe you really ought to know, I love you, I honestly love you.” Keep on hanging around... #olivianewtonjohn #70sfashion #70smusic #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylrecords #vinylcollector #albumart #1948
