“While black history and literature shouldn’t be relegated to a single month, it’s a great excuse to share our favorite books by black authors and discover new writers of color for our to-read lists.” Well said, fictionmatters! 👏 What have you been reading for #BlackHistoryMonth? There’s still time to squeeze in one of our new Harlem Renaissance titles! 📖

#WilliamEdwardBurghardt #WEBDuBois was one of the most important black activist during the first half of the 20th century. He co-founded the NAACP and supported Pan-Africanism after graduating from Fisk University he became the first black male to graduate from Harvard University. He provided one of the most influential glances into the races and definition of "black america" #trendsetter #KnowBetterDoBetter #KnowledgeIsPower #Lengendary #Educated #BlackHistoryMonth2018 #HistoricallyBlack

How wonderful is it that you get to choose your attitude each moment of the day? We all get triggered into anger and frustration because that's how we're wired. Whenever I need to shift my attitude into a positive direction I do a "Realness Check". Realness Check = Mindfulness Exercise to get out of my head and into the real world 1) Deep exhale & shift attention to note feelings in each part for 5 seconds: 3rd toe on my left foot (no wiggling), right knee, left hip bone, right shoulder, top of head 2) Deep exhale & shift attention to note 4 sounds that you hear 3) Deep exhale & shift attention to note 3 objects that you see 4) Now inhale the positive attitude you'd like to embody #quotes #quoteoftheday #courage #complete #change #happinessisachoice #businesscoach #brave #trust #hepburn #goals #workhard #possibilities #greatness #strive #strategy #win #work #motivation #life #love #inspiration #inspirational #WEBDuBois

To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships. ~ #WEBDubois #BlackHistoryMonth

#HappyBlackHistoryMonth Today we honor two of the greatest minds of all time. #BookerTWashington and #WEBDuBois although the two intellectual giants did not always agree on method, they both made enormous strides #fortheculture. I personally subscribe moreso to #DuBois and his #TalentedTenth ideology. #Washington had a slightly more passive approach that called for Black people to eventually earn equal rights by proving with industrial and agricultural work. Ultimately both men respectfully disagreed on some procedure but had the same end goal equal rights and advancement for Black people. Both men advised several US Presidents and influenced countless minds. We salute these two great men for their strides to humanity and the African American culture. #Day20 #BlackHistoryFacts #educators #activists #intellectuals #leaders

DR. JOHN HENRIK CLARKE — ON W.E.B. DUBOIS AND BOOKER T. WASHINGTON “Now in the debate between W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington we started choosing sides. We started choosing sides and we haven't straightened it out until this day. “We assumed that we had no choice other than to choose sides between a political/liberal education and an agricultural/industrial education: either DuBois was right or Booker T. Washington was right. “We could not allow that both of them were right! . . . “We have not considered that the education for white people in this country is basically bad, and it is even worse for us. “If we had followed Booker T. Washington's educational plan there would not be a boarded-up house in any black community. There would be black plumbers, black carpenters, blacks who own brickyards, and black technicians who would fix the houses long before they reached the point of being boarded-up. “Had we followed W.E.B. DuBois' program, there would be no inept black politicians because we would have learned how to make our politicians accountable to us, or else we would remove them. “We should have had a wedding between what Booker T. Washington was saying and what DuBois was saying. “Instead we called Washington a traditionalist, and DuBois a modernist — and did not see that there was no conflict between one and the other.” #webdubois #bookertwashington #johnhenrikclarke #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth #duboisvwashington #blacklivesmatter
