•••B O N E B R O T H••• Felt like I was catching something a few weeks ago so I was lucky to have the convenience of brothRX in my freezer that I could just quickly heat up on the stove and take to-go on my morning commute. This company is awesome because of their high quality ingredients and convenience for when I don’t have time to replenish my homemade supply of broth. They use pasture-raised chicken from a local, small farm, organic and locally sourced vegetables, and reverse osmosis/filtered alkaline water.  Plus they simmer their broth for 24 hours. Now since most of the immune system resides in the gut, I focus on gut health boosting remedies whenever I’m sick. Bone broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system and contains restorative compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine, and proline. The collagen in bone broth also aids in repairing and protecting the gut lining and reducing intestinal inflammation, which ultimately creates a better environment for the helpful probiotics that reside there and create a great immune system. Lastly- I can’t help myself but to bring some more education to the table. Technically, bone BROTH is really a STOCK due to its thickness (from the goodness of gelatin) and long cooking time used to extract all the collagen and gelatin from the inside of the bones. A broth technically cooks for less time is a thinner liquid due to having less collagen and gelatin. Did you miss me? 😎 I sure missed y’all. - - 2018 has been an excellent year so far for us, and I’m hoping the same is true for each of you! I’ve done a lot of reflecting over the past couple of months, and I have made a plan for my homestead-sharing future. It will be a while until I implement that plan, though, so in the meantime I wanted to update you on some excitement. - - Both of our Nigerian Dwarf Goats kidded on Valentine’s Day. Cookie had a doeling named Butterfat and two bucklings named Meatball & Tater Tot. Snickers had a doeling named Fatty Mayonnaise (her twin, sadly, was stillborn). Butterfat was the first to be born and was also the smallest, weighing in at 2.17 lbs. Tater Tot was the biggest at 4.01. - - Nigerian Dwarf Goats are quite small - our adult does’ shoulders come up to my knee! Even so, the breed is known for easy kidding, and triplets and quads are common. As inexperienced as I am, I would describe both of their kiddings as easy, especially for first timers. Cookie showed her first sign of labor (a little discharge) about 3 hours before her first kid was out. She only went through about 2 minutes of hard pushing with her first kid. And since Snickers always has to out-do her sister, her first bit of discharge appeared 10 minutes before kidding. Yes, 10 minutes! She also pushed for about 2 minutes. Not bad at all for first time fresheners, at least from what I’ve read. - - Nigerian Dwarf Goats are a good dual-purpose brews, meaning they are good for both meat and dairy. The milk from Nigerian Dwarf Goats is said to be the sweetest of the goat milks, and also the highest in butterfat content. Our girls Cookie & Snickers come from an excellent show & dairy line, so we are expecting a great quality and quantity of milk from them. We’ve already done a little sampling (from milking out an under-used udder on each of them) but we are letting them keep most of the milk for their kids. Cookie’s milk tastes superb with a delicate sweet flavor and a delightful richness. As for Snickers, well, I knew there was a reason she is my favorite goat! Her milk tastes just like sweet heavy cream! 🤤😋 - - Special thanks to all our special visitors! 💜

We’re making fresh orange juice this morning with oranges off a friend’s tree! In general, we don’t drink a lot of juices because it’s basically just sugar water when the enzymes and nutrients have been processed out. But with the fresh squeezed juice, all of the enzymes & phytonutrients are still intact. Oran making his own ketchup. This is a really handy no-cook ketchup recipe from the Nourishing Traditions cookbook for children - Oran makes it regularly. 🌿roasted cauliflower w/ pink tahini🌿 . . Roasting veggies is my favorite way to make veggies and tahini cauliflower is my favorite restaurant veggie dish, so I decided to combine the two. I was inspired by brooklynvegetarian to try making a pink tahini sauce using beet powder. . . I found an organic tahini sauce from traderjoes and added 1 tbsp beet powder, 2 lemons, 2-3 garlic cloves grated on a micro plain and some water to thin. How can garlic be harmful? 80% of the garlic sold around the world actually comes from China. In 2014, the United States imported over 138 million pounds of Chinese garlic, and each year the trend appears to grow. Chinese garlic is covered in bleach pesticides, harmful chemicals and has little teste. Believe it or not I had a hard time finding garlic from the USA, but I finally found some yesterday at a local store. Baby is usually ready when he/she has teeth and starts producing the enzymes to digest or can sit up on their own. ~6months 2.) Start slowly and introduce one food at a time for at least 4 days before introducing another, watching for any reactions. 3.) Wait to feed any grains until baby is 1 year old and they start producing the proper enzymes to digest them. 3.) Every baby is different -- watch for readiness! (Talk with health coach for guidance) 4.) Don't forget to add a little fat to each meal. Butter or coconut oil are great options for babies!
