13 December 2017 #HIIT: 166.0 cal. Steps: 1,772/0.89 mi./119 cal. Week 3 of HIIT commenced tonight &, well, what a hoot! Two drills followed by three intervals of core/leg conditioners followed by three rounds of pushups/lunges/jumping jacks. It may sound like work BUT, yes, it is work; however, it's crazy fun! Yesterday's rest day helped a lot & I'm looking forward to the next workout. Tomorrow, husband & I are doing an eye appointment. I have my own appointment next week. Like a dork, I'm looking forward to it because I haven't seen an eye doctor since...well...since before I got out of the Air Force back in 2006. I've been wearing contacts based on an old prescription & I have a pair of glasses in need of updating. My vision is super bad. How bad? Well, the only letter I know on an eye chart is the giant E at the top & that's only because I know it's the letter E. Everything else is like the blurry parts of Björk's "Pagan Poetry" video. Seriously. So...yay, eye appointment next week! WoooOOOOO! I hope you have a great ending to your week. Rest Day! I'm taking the evening to chill out & search for music to download. I'm also having a cup of starbucks #holiday blend in my favourite mug. Also, watching the post election coverage & sending my congratulations to the state of #Alabama for voting for progress and decency. Last year, my family (Bro, Ma, and Dad) came by to visit & I noticed that my mother and I shared a a pretty cool trait. We both like having #coffee at night! It was kind of rad seeing her drinking coffee out of my zombie mug. Now, every time I see this mug, I think about her & it makes me smile. I'm looking forward to starting week 3 of #HIIT. I'm definitely feeling it today in my upper body & I'm looking forward to what comes next. But for tonight, I'm gonna sit back, drink a cup of coffee, & look for #music. 11 December 2017 #HIIT: 228.0 cal. Steps: 3,020/1.52 mi./186 cal. So, I've been leaving a plate of cat food out on the back porch for the cat who'd sit and stare at me through the door screen while I worked out. It's a bit unnerving, all the staring, that silent judgment like I'm not doing things right...anyhow, I digress. It turns out my cat buddy has invited some of his/her BFFs to check out the spread. The other night, I saw a cat that reminded me of Garfield. It doesn't bother me, I love aminals (intentional misspelling), I grew up with cats and dogs, also a goat. I've been feeling more and more that I want to be a cat dad or a dog dad. It's tempting but husband and I've gotta be in a more stable home situation so I've been quelling myself with videos of kittens and people being covered in an army of curious puppies. Anyhow, I had a good workout tonight. Intensity seems to be the watchword for this HIIT deal. I'm loving it but I'm also loving having a rest day which is tomorrow. The 30-day challenges were great but the rest days were inconsistent at times. At least with HIIT, there's a day for rest. I'm gonna take advantage by, I don't know, working on photos or reading The Dark Tower series on my Nook. I hope your week has started out great out there. 09 December 2017 #HIIT: 155.0 cal. Steps: 1,965/0.97 mi./140 cal. I woke up with a scratchy throat and a headache. I wasn't able to make the rehearsal but I did let the director know I'm still on board. Then, I chilled for the day. Husband ended up working a very long day so I whipped up a spaghetti dinner which turned out really good. It gets me that anytime I make anything remotely Italian, I end up using like four different pans, several utensils, and the stovetop looks like I murdered a family of tomatoes. It felt good to relax and, eventually, my throat and head felt better. I napped, too. I hope your weekend has been going well out there wherever you are. 08 December 2017 #HIIT: 145.0 cal. Steps: 2,304/1.21 mi./152 cal. #TGIF, for sure! Neary every-bloody-day of the week for the past couple of week has been a hell trek from work to home. The freeways, the surface streets, and everything in between have been clogged with cars. One day, it took me nearly two hours to drive the 16 bloody miles from office to home. There's really no winning in any situation so it's a matter of getting in line & hoping I don't have to make a head call sitting in traffic. Once I get home, some days I just want to lie down and sleep til morning. I don't because I have to eat and chill with husband. Week 2, day 2 of HIIT & I'm feeling it totally. Luckily, I found some pain-relieving cream which will help. I haven't pulled anything so that's good. Somehow I was able to pump out 60 burpees, 60 lunges, and 60 leg lifts in a matter of minutes. This HIIT stuff ain't a joke. It's pretty awesome! Tomorrow, I have a meeting for a musical and I haven't touched the script so I guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning. With work, traffic, and stuff, I haven't given myself a chance to review the show. I may check it out later after a shower. These HIIT sessions really bring the sweat out. I was actually dripping sweat tonight. Anyhow, I hope your week went great and that you have a good start to your weekend. 07 December 2017 #HIIT: 160.0 cal. Steps: 4,568/2.32 mi./283 cal. Week 2 of HIIT has commenced; tonight's workout was intense with intervals of crazy exercises like a modified side plank crunch thingy that kicked my arse as well as made me feel like a Flashdance dancer. So...WIN! Before that, I treated myself to a 30-minute deep cleaning blue corn mask. I'd have posted a pic to my story but I was caught up in the beautiness of it all. And before that, I almost passed out on the couch watching TV upside down. I'm glad I didn't. This HIIT stuff is crazy! Like there are drills & intervals of intense #exercises followed by more intervals with more intense exercises. It's super fun & I can't believe I'm saying that especially since six months ago I was having issues even doing 10 pushups. I like the progress I've made. I hope your week has been a good one. 05 December 2017 #HIIT: 103.0 cal. Steps: 3,997/2.05 mi./242 cal. I've completed my 1st week of HIIT & I'm enjoying it. Tomorrow will be a rest day before starting the 2nd week the day after. I find that working out & taking time to take photos helps with the #holiday chaos and other subsequent #depression. Honestly, at this time in years last, I'd be dealing with the malaise & the numbness that comes with a depressed state. With these tools, I'm in a better mood than before. 04 December 2017 Day 4 #HIIT: 28.0 cal. Steps: 7,377/3.72 mi./456 cal. Tonight's workout was surprisingly short but I'm not gonna question the progression of this HIIT deal. For the previous 30-day fitness challenges, I tended to overdo it, feeling more burnout than I wanted to. This new phase is structured which I like. Also, there are actual rest days which, given how intense this training is, are going to be necessary. Tonight was a bit chaotic. I went to three different Target locations after work looking for a coat with no luck. I also noticed the difference in how these locations are handling the #holiday shopping season. One was pretty squared away while another looked like a rummage sale with piles of clothes all over the place. I guess it also depends on the consumers; either way, my heart goes out to those working retail this time of the year. Them and the postal services, they put in a lot of work and deal with all sorts of people. I've really been enjoying the HIIT program so far. I like that there's a timeframe set from the start so I know how long the workout will be. I'm looking forward to continuing it. After all, I paid for a subscription so I'm gonna put it to great use. 03 December 2017 Day 3 #HIIT: 154.0 cal. Steps: 5,527/2.78 mi./326 cal. It was an awesome day! Husband & I went to see the #Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus' (SGMC) holiday show, "A Holiday Mixtape!," over in Midtown. It was a great show! The chorus always puts on an awesome event. It's a highlight of the season for me. Afterward, we had dinner at Applebee's & hit the local record/book store where I got the latest from Björk (Utopia) & the Killers (Wonderful, Wonderful) plus Marilyn Manson's "Antichrist Superstar." We came home & husband racked out; I watched "The Walking Dead" before warming up for the workout. OMG, this HIIT business is no joke! I'm liking it a lot & really feel like I can make changes happen even more than before. I'm excited to continue with it. After all, I'll need to what with the holiday #stress, work stress & the foodiness of it all. HIIT may also be helping my knee get better, stronger. The exercises are intense, like remixes the of standard exercises. I think I'm going to enjoy this program! Well, my weekend has been pretty low-key. 01 December 2017 Day 1 #HIIT: 131.0 cal. Steps: 1,256/0.62 mi./7 cal. So, for my next challenge, I've entered into high intensity interval training (HIIT). The 30-day challenges were awesome but I needed a different approach. I'll likely return to the challenges later on. I want to do this HIIT thang for a bit. Tonight's session was great and I was already feeling it by the time it was done. It'll be a 5x/week deal for a while, we'll see what happens. I'm excited for this next phase! So, yeah, yesterday's workout kicked my butt as it usually does on the very last day. I was hurting today and did very little moving at work. Most of the exertion was mental; as in trying not to lapse into a nap. T'is the season for folks to take extended periods of leave because of the holidays. I just wish all the absences would translate to traffic. Yesterday, it took about 50 minutes to drive less than 20 miles. The day before, I was on the road for nearly two hours trying to get home. Seems like folks loose their bloody minds this time of year. Freeways are backed up, surface roads as well. It's a no-win situation in any case so I just get in a flow and suffer the slog. Luckily, I have satellite radio and my iPod to keep me sane. I've been digging M.I.A.'s album, AIM. My fave tracks are "Freedun, "Bird Song," "Go Off," and "Borders." I also added more Tori Amos songs to the library. It helps a lot! Anyhow, I hope your week went great and that your weekend is even better. My buddy Kevin ( frogprotection61) will be performing on Sunday with the #Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus ( sacramento_gmc) in their holiday show, "A Holiday Mixtape!" It's been a hellish kinda week; between a bout of chronic #insomnia and a busy workweek, I'm feeling a little ragged tonight. Back in the old days, I could bounce back from this sorta thing and be able to function pretty well. Now, at 37, I've gotta give myself time to recuperate. Three days of bad sleep create a backlog of things to catch up on in my body. I got the first real rest last night (OMG, like 10 glorious hours of unbroken sleep!) but I'm feeling a little out of it tonight still. It's frustrating because I'm on the last day of my 4th 30-day fitness challenge and all this shiznit started kicking up. I should be good to go tomorrow night to finish this off and start the next one. In the meantime, I'm updating my iTunes library with Tori Amos songs I somehow forgot to upload (Like the beautiful duet with Robert Plant in "Down By The Seaside" off the Led Zeppelin tribute album, "Encomium.") and having a bit of the awesome cherry apple pie from Abel's Apple Acres up on Apple Hill.
