This is a beautiful Ceiba tree. Beautiful and unique, presenting buttress roots and cone like spikes on the top bark of branches. To me... it looks like an elephant 🐘. #nature #trees #arbol #arboles #ceiba #trees #park #parque #roots #buttressroots #raices #raiz #lovenature #naturetalks #natureteaches #elephant #elefante #love #verde #green #branches #spike #spikes #thorny #beautiful #unique

#ceiba #ceibaspeciosa #silkflosstree #avenuetrees Family: Bombacaceae Silk floss tree is a fast-growing deciduous tree with a dense, wide-spreading canopy, growing 15 - 30 metres tall. The bright green bole, which is covered in stout spines when young, usually branches from quite low down. It can be 80 - 120cm in diameter. The plant is harvested from the wild mainly for its seed floss, which is used as a stuffing material. It is often grown as an ornamental, being valued especially for its spectacular flowering display. Dry, semi-deciduous, broadleaved forests, being found in both dense primary formations and secondary forests. The best trees are found growing on the fertile soils of alluvial plains and valley bottom. The cotton inside the capsules, although not of as good quality as that of the kapok tree, has been used as stuffing f(density = 0.27 g/cm³), soft and flexible, and is employed in packaging, to make canoes, as wood pulp to make paper, and in ropes. From the seeds it is possible to obtain vegetable oil (both edible and industrially useful). The silk floss tree is cultivated mostly for ornamental purposes. Outside of private gardens around the world, it is often planted along urban streets in subtropical areas such as in Spain, South Africa, Australia, northern New Zealand, India and the southern USA, although its prickled trunks and limbs require safety buffer zones, especially around the trunks, in order to protect people and domesticated animals from its prickles.
