We want to share a story that exemplifies the saying, “the youth are the leaders of tomorrow.” Mark Okoye II @mark_okoye was honoured as a JCIN Top Outstanding Young Persons of Nigeria in 2017 because of his commitment to capacity development, economic empowerment and development. With vast experience in budgeting, economic planning, governance, and finance. Little wonder he became the youngest commissioner in Anambra state, at 30. Prior to his appointment, he was a senior executive at Afrinvest, engaging in capital raising and different financial transactions. He was appointed to contribute his quota to the economic well-being of Anambra state by Governor Willie Obiano in 2015 as a Special Assistant on Economic Planning, Budget and Investments. There’s a saying that “the reward of hard work is more work” and this played out in the story of Mark. In 2016, he was made the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Development, making him one of the youngest public servants in the country. Mark can boast of being the brain behind the creation of over 10,000 jobs in Anambra state, a driver of investment towards Agriculture, Manufacturing and Trade. Some of these investments include the Coscharis farms - $100m, Lynden Poultry farms - $40m and Anambra Delfarms Ltd - $60m. He has also introduced monthly performance reviews to monitor the State’s Internally Generated Revenues (IGRs), monitoring statewide initiatives that led to the increase of IGRs from N600m/month to approximately N1.3bn/month in 12 months. So, there you have it. This is the Political, Legal and/or Government Affairs story of Mark Okoye. Know an outstanding young person like Mark Okoye II?
